LP3/PRAXIS3 has won multiple design awards for this project, including the Georgia AIA’s 2013 Merit Award and the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation’s 2015 Award for Excellence in Sustainable Rehabilitation. LP3/PRAXIS3’s design for the University of Georgia’s College of Environment and Design addressed the consolidation of the CED’s multiple campus locations into the former Lamar Dodd College of Art. Constructed in 1962 and designed by seminal Atlanta modernist Joe Amisano, this landmark building was repurposed to provide new, state-of-the-art design studios, classrooms, lecture halls, and administrative / faculty offices. Conservation and rehabilitation of the building included the careful insertion of advanced chilled beam and water recycling systems, achieving LEED Gold Certification and helping to exemplify the mission of UGA’s College of Environment and Design.
