PRAXIS3, in collaboration with Amy Landesberg Art and Design, designed this new home for one of the world’s premier Robotics and Intelligent Machines programs. Phase One of the two-phase 28,000 SF retrofit provides a state-of-the-art laboratory and research environment to facilitate greater interaction and cross-pollination among the numerous disciplines required for the creation of the next generation of robots. The space plan is driven by the desire to maximize day-lighting and to provide flexibility for the continuously reconfigured spaces required for the department’s projects. The project includes administrative and faculty offices, open workstations, conference areas, “think tank” rooms, a break room/lounge, and a robotics research and development laboratory. The design team successfully achieved a “big look” for the owner’s $1.75 million construction budget.
