Atlanta-Fulton Central Library

PRAXIS3’s design for the Renewal of the Atlanta-Fulton Central Library in downtown Atlanta proposes thoughtful
interventions that would rehabilitate the building’s iconic modernist architecture and update the interior of the Library to serve the needs of its 21st-century users. One of the key aspects of the design is the sensitive and careful introduction of digital media installations into the sculpted facades designed by Modernist master Marcel Breuer. In addition, the design seeks to open the interior to create airy, brightly lit spaces organized around an expanded sunlit atrium and a ground floor design that more actively engages a street-level pedestrian plaza. This unrealized design was produced as part of a community effort to raise awareness of the architectural significance of the building, and to encourage the preservation of Breuer’s design.
