Each year IIDA Georgia Chapter hosts Dressed, a charity fashion show event in which design firms from across Atlanta compete by designing garments made from sponsor materials. This year, PRAXIS3 created our garment using laminate from Laminart and fabrics from Momentum Group and National Office Furniture. The theme this year was “colour in (e)motion”, and the entries had to capture a specific action and feeling using color. Our team was given the words Swing & Wonder and were able to use a green and yellow color.

Our garment is designed to swing! Wonder is evoked through the use of the Seven Wonders of the World as the design inspiration for the different garment pieces. The overskirt shape and length are reminiscent of swing-era dance dresses. Movement is built-in where a fluid fabric, with a built-in petticoat, swings from a pleated waistband. Reverse pleats in a contrast fabric are overlaid with a stitch work pattern of self-fabric, laminate and metal ball chain as an abstracted version of the Great Wall of China. Upholstery fabric from Momentum and National are used, as well as laminate and hardware from LaminArt. Our very own Briana Fountain strutted her stuff on the runway at the Tabernacle, and the team took home 2nd Place! Benefiting Dress for Success, IIDA Georgia’s Dressed is a truly special event.

PRAXIS3 architecture + multidisciplinary design is pleased to announce that for the fifth year in a row, we have been selected for the 2018 PSMJ Circle of Excellence.

PRAXIS3 has been recognized as one of the top architecture firms nationwide to receive this prestigious award. PSMJ is the world’s leading authority on the effective management of AEC firms. PSMJ Circle of Excellence is designed to highlight firms that are successfully managed, based on 13 key performance metrics that demonstrate outstanding achievement in profitability, staff growth, cash flow, productivity, business development, overhead management and turnover.

“Each year, the Circle of Excellence firms come from all corners of the A/E space. This diversity demonstrates that success isn’t defined by a specific firm size, location, or market niche,” says Frank A. Stasiowski, FAIA, Founder and CEO of PSMJ Resources. “The top-performing firms just think and act differently from the rest of the pack to achieve extraordinary business performance.”

“PRAXIS3 is honored and humbled to be included for the fifth year in a row in PSMJ’s Circle of Excellence” says Ryan Stancill, Principal at PRAXIS3. “PRAXIS3 continues to learn and grow for the purpose of developing a more sustainable design practice. We are constantly reinvesting in our firm and our people so that we may continue to provide design and technical excellence to our many clients. Paramount in all of that is making sure that the practice takes on a life of its own for our employees; that they may better serve our clients.”

The team at PRAXIS3 is always working hard to maintain the high level of quality our clients have come to expect. The team also needs time to bond, to break bread, and to relax and recharge. For the past four years, PRAXIS3 has reserved houses at the exclusive Big Canoe community, located in the North Georgia Mountains, for a three-day retreat for our entire team and their families. Initially, it was supposed to rain all weekend, but the weather cleared up, and we had perfect weather every single day!

On Friday, PRAXIS3 hosted a huge cookout at the Wildcat Pavilion. Everyone’s family came out to eat, relax in the shade, and to bid our longtime friend, co-worker, and resident photographer, Melissa, adieu.

Saturday was filled with soaking up the sun by the pools and lake, playing on natural rock slides, and trying our hand at the inflatable obstacle course. We had a small group of P3ers wander over to a local vineyard in Jasper to make some new (goat) friends. We ended an awesome Saturday with an eventful happy hour at Ford Cottage, hosted by Principals, Brian Tanner and Ryan Stancill.

The PRAXIS3 Retreat at Big Canoe has become an annual tradition that we look forward to each year, and we hope to continue the tradition for years to come. Now we’re back in the office, rested and ready to better serve our clients!
