Since 1969, NeoCon has been held annually at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. NeoCon is one of the biggest events in the Commercial Design Industry and serves as the beginning of the industry’s yearly schedule. A+D Manufacturers from around the globe will fly in to showcase new products to the nearly 50,000 design professionals. This year was huge for Neocon as they celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Our own Cas Swope attended this year and represented Praxis3 in Chicago. In his words, “it was an amazing show. There are some great furniture pieces and impressive new flooring materials coming out. It was inspiring to see all the new products and collaborate with others in the design industry.”
Cas also had the pleasure of accepting IIDA’s “Best Thing Ever” Award on behalf of the IIDA Georgia Chapter. IIDA Georgia won the award for their annual Dressed event. Dressed is a charity fashion show in which design firms across Atlanta compete by designing garments made from sponsor materials. Dressed 2018 will be held in our office’s neighborhood at The Tabernacle on Thursday, September 20th from 6pm-11pm. Come out and support the Praxis3 team when they show off their runway ensemble!

Jason is a talented and valued member of our team with proven experience across a broad range of projects that have earned accolades in the U.S. and around the world. He embodies the values, culture and philosophy on which the firm was founded. His promotion is a well-earned recognition of his contributions to the growth and success of Praxis3.

When Cas is not working, he is busy at home. His wife is his rock, and he is so thankful that she puts up with him and his (sometimes) crazy passions. Cas and his wife have two kids, a five-year-old, and a two-year-old that take up the majority of their time. Between playing with dolls and play-dough, throwing baseballs, and wrestling, he manages to get out and run and bike. He loves being active. It makes him feel good and helps him think.

“I can remember being captivated by my dad sketching out plans of the house that he wanted to build. It was very inspiring.”

One of the perks of being located in downtown Atlanta is being within a short MARTA ride of some awesome landmarks. Praxis3 was lucky enough to score an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Fox Theatre. We got to take a ride on the manually operated elevator, see the famous Mighty Mo organ up-close, and even see some ghosts!

Praxis3 had the awesome opportunity to participate in this year’s refortify event, thanks to our sponsor, Spartan Surfaces. Refortify is a local program that walks young students through the design process (from concept to construction) of their very own fort. Our team consisted of Jessica Earp, Charlotte Friedman, Kristopher Goettig, Bezawit Moges, Logan Patterson, Michael Weaver, and Garrett Womble.  We met several times leading up to build day to brainstorm ideas, discuss construction, and collect donations from co-workers.  The clothing and materials are donated to benefit Salvation Army Kroc Center’s mission.

Our little architects, Brenden and Gabriel, wanted to highlight their love of the changing seasons in this fort. We’ve chosen to represent each season through the application of color and season-specific amenities. From the warmth and fun of summer to the peaceful calm of winter, take a walk through the year inside!

The entrance of the fort represents spring with lively green grass and colorful snacks. For Gabriel and Brenden, playing basketball reminds them of Spring and Summer. Between playing on a team and after school pickup games, our little architects spend a lot of their free time on the court. To celebrate their love of basketball, we chose to include a hoop and a space to dribble. When not on the court, they also enjoy:

  • chill-axing
  • talking to Alexa
  • playing video games
  • eating chips

To simulate the cozy warmth of fall and winter, we included a pile of pillows and a video game corner. Here, our little architects can kick back and relax. To represent the playful side of winter, we built a sledding hill that also serves as the exit to our fort.
