Praxis3 had the awesome opportunity to participate in this year’s refortify event, thanks to our sponsor, Spartan Surfaces. Refortify is a local program that walks young students through the design process (from concept to construction) of their very own fort. Our team consisted of Jessica Earp, Charlotte Friedman, Kristopher Goettig, Bezawit Moges, Logan Patterson, Michael Weaver, and Garrett Womble.  We met several times leading up to build day to brainstorm ideas, discuss construction, and collect donations from co-workers.  The clothing and materials are donated to benefit Salvation Army Kroc Center’s mission.

Our little architects, Brenden and Gabriel, wanted to highlight their love of the changing seasons in this fort. We’ve chosen to represent each season through the application of color and season-specific amenities. From the warmth and fun of summer to the peaceful calm of winter, take a walk through the year inside!

The entrance of the fort represents spring with lively green grass and colorful snacks. For Gabriel and Brenden, playing basketball reminds them of Spring and Summer. Between playing on a team and after school pickup games, our little architects spend a lot of their free time on the court. To celebrate their love of basketball, we chose to include a hoop and a space to dribble. When not on the court, they also enjoy:

  • chill-axing
  • talking to Alexa
  • playing video games
  • eating chips

To simulate the cozy warmth of fall and winter, we included a pile of pillows and a video game corner. Here, our little architects can kick back and relax. To represent the playful side of winter, we built a sledding hill that also serves as the exit to our fort.

Praxis3 is excited to kick off 2018 by recognizing three people that have made significant contributions to our continued success as a design practice. Sarah Butler and Kevin Lackey have been promoted to Senior Associate, and Martha Henderson-Bennett has been promoted to Associate.

Sarah Butler has 19 years of professional experience and joined Praxis3 in 2014. Since becoming an Associate in 2016, Sarah has continued to develop as an exceptional project manager, as a mentor to young professionals, and as an ambassador of the firm to the design and construction community. Sarah manages a diverse portfolio of project types, including higher education, housing, and automotive retail, providing excellent project leadership for new construction projects and complicated remodels. Her professionalism provides an excellent example for younger professionals, and Sarah has established herself as a trusted mentor in the office and in the Atlanta design community. Her commitment to professional service outside the office has continued to grow, evidenced by her participation in events such as AIA Open House Atlanta, the 2017 Georgia Association of State Facilities Administrators (GASFA) Conference, and her involvement with the Urban Land Institute, where she serves on the ULI Technical Assistance Program Committee and is Chair of the Design for Affordability Task Force.

Kevin Lackey joined Praxis3 in 2010, and was named an Associate of the firm in 2013. With more than 15 years of professional experience, Kevin has established himself as an excellent Project Manager, has continued to develop strong client relationships in multiple practice sectors, and has become increasingly involved with business development activities. Kevin’s project management portfolio is diverse, and is comprised of many of the most complex projects in the office, including automotive, higher education, and hospitality projects. He has developed strong working relationships with clients at the University of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia, and has been able to effectively navigate the complex project delivery and administration procedures that accompany public sector higher education design projects. Kevin has also taken a larger role in business development in the higher education sector, representing the firm at the2017 Georgia Association of State Facilities Administrators (GASFA) Conference and playing a key role in helping the firm to craft and execute successful interview presentations with UGA and TCSG.

Martha Henderson-Bennett joined Praxis3 in 2016 and has played a critical role in helping the firm improve its technical performance and design quality. This past October marked Praxis3’s 20th Anniversary. A lot can happen during 20 years in business and our team has grown in so many ways. Our work is more diverse than ever, and the list of clients that have placed their trust in us has grown beyond our wildest dreams. We’ve seen an increase in the scale and complexity of projects we design, and the range of services we offer has continued to grow to serve our clients. And our commitment to building a sustainable business for our employees has never been stronger. Below is a video to help tell the story behind who we are: our mission, our culture, and our history.
