In my experience, the process of conducting field measures at the beginning of the project to create architectural measured drawings has been a very hands-on process. From climbing ladders, to squeezing into cobweb-filled and hard-to-reach spaces, to dealing with curious inhabitants of the space, getting accurate measurements of an entire building can feel daunting.

PRAXIS3 attended NeoCon 2023 in Chicago, Illinois! NeoCon has served as the world’s leading platform for the commercial design industry since 1969. From flooring to furniture, textiles to acoustic solutions, NeoCon sets the stage to view millions of square feet of the latest and greatest from the past, present, and into the future. This 3-day event offers an opportunity for companies to display ideas and introductions that shape the built environment, as well as opportunities to expand one’s knowledge through continuing education units from various speakers and topics.

From choosing eco-friendly solutions for our clients to recycling in the office, PRAXIS3 has integrated sustainability throughout our entire practice. In 2022, in celebration of Earth Day, PRAXIS3’s Sustainability Committee challenged our team members to commit to a personal sustainability goal, and over a third of our office participated. From growing food to planting trees to taking more public transportation, this activity empowered our team to make sustainable choices that align with their current lifestyles.

The results of an informal survey I took around the office yielded a number of overlapping reasons why a person wanted to become an architect:

to design… a love of drawing…

to shape our environment…  a proficiency with putting things together…

to help people.

Building envelopes serve as our barrier between the ever-changing exterior climate and the mechanically-controlled environment of our interiors. This presents a challenge for architects, because while personal comfort is generally constant and narrowly defined, the outside environment can present a wide range of conditions, from day to night and from season to season. Insulation is one of the most important considerations to prevent the thermal heat transfer through the building envelope, maintaining our interior comfort while ultimately lowering the cost of heating and cooling to do so.

Our team at PRAXIS3 is excited to share an image of the all-new Genesis of Central Florida. This will be our first completed Genesis dealership and one of the first few in the country. This ground up store will be 19,000sf, have 10 service bays, a 2-bay new vehicle delivery area. Our team currently has 6 Genesis dealerships in design, and we have been working closely with Genesis and AGI to work through all of the intricate details of this new design.
